Why your children are disobedient? You might have many explanations for this question. But as a Christian if you experience this problem in your family, I would like to advise you to examine yourself; examine your own relationship with your Heavenly Father. How much do you obey HIM in your daily life? if you live in disobedience to HIS cmmandments, then, it won’t be a surprise to see your own children disobeying you.
In my observation what I often find is: Disobedient Parents raise disobedient kids; of coursse you will not agree with what I am saying but there is some truth in this statement and that is what I am going to discuss below.
One of the central themes of the Bible is Obedience. In fact, the other main themes in the Bible are directly or indirectly related to this central theme. However Biblical obedience is not something that is discussed in many Christian Families. As a result, neither parents nor children really care about obedience.
Throughout the Bible, many times, LORD Almighty talks about Obedience. Actually, our relationship with the LORD Almighty depends up on just this one single most important theme.
Please keep in mind: The relationship with our Heavenly Father sours the moment we disobey HIM. So, we can’t really afford to live a life of disobedience for any reason.
6These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 6, 6-9)
In Deuteronomy 6, 6-9, Moses is instructing the Children of Israel about the importance of keeping the commandments. In addition, He also instructs the Israelites to teach the Commandments to their Children.
Furthermore, He also asks the Israelites to talk about God’s commandments as often as possible.
He instructs them to talk about them when they sit at home and when they walk along the road, when they lie down and when they wake up in the morning. He also asks them to tie them as symbols on their hands and bind them on their foreheads. Besides, He also commands the Israelites to write them on the door frames of their houses and gates.
Well, from this you could very well guess how much importance the LORD Almighty attaches to HIS commandments.
But, My Dear Christian Brother, Sister, let me ask you frankly:
How often do you discuss about the Commandments of God Almighty with your Children?
Do you remember when was the last time you admonished your child for disobeying God’s Commandments?
I am sure you may not have an honest answer and it does not surprise me.
Nowadays, a common complaint from Christian parents is this –
“Oh! our Children are very disobedient; they never obey us”
My Dear Christian brother/sister: The problem is not with your kids; it is with you. As a parent, what example have you set before your children?
As a Christian have you ever bothered to study the commandments given in the Word of God?
When was the last time you read from the Book of Leviticus? (Don’t say it is too old! Anyway, it is God’s Word.)
Let me put this in a straightforward manner. I am really sorry if it hurts you:
Please remember: the reason why your children don’t obey you is: because, you never obey your Heavenly Father.
There is a direct relationship between:
“You obeying your Heavenly Father and Your children obeying you.”
When you start obeying your Heavenly Father, your children will start obeying you naturally, without any external pressure.
Dear Saints; from tomorrow onwards, make it a habit to discuss with your children about the importance of obeying God’s Commandments and also encourage them to walk by them.
Also, please make it a prayer point in your daily prayer, so that, you will get help from the Holy Spirit to achieve this goal. Amen.
