The Reality of Eternal Life

Eternal Life, though it sounds a bit abstract to human senses, is the most concrete and realistic part of Human life. In fact, our life on earth is irrevocably tied to this reality. However, majority of the people are not willing to accept this fact。

Many of the people, especially the educated ones, often wonder why they need eternal life. They wish to believe that; they are just “dust came together” without any plan or purpose and after several decades of life on earth they turn into dust again.

For them the topic of “Eternal Life” sounds really abstract, complex and even incomprehensible. This does not mean that their minds are not inquisitive.

Man, the smartest and the brightest living beings on the face of the earth often wonder:

Why this universe exists? Why we are here on this planet earth as physical human beings? And Where do we go from here?  And they do search sincerely, but often their search ends in science text books.

But let me ask you honestly; does your six senses (yes, let me repeat: six senses, if you have doubt you can count) support or affirm what you believe?

No matter what answers you feed your mind with, still it keeps raising unanswerable questions to the intellectual in you. The inner spirit that dwells inside of you still says: “I am not satisfied with your answer; because, it is not true”.

Honestly speaking; our science text books don’t have accurate answers. Science is built on assumptions and observations within the realm of time, they don’t go beyond that. In fact, they don’t have the capacity to go beyond that.

Furthermore, its theoretical and empirical structures are designed and developed by human mind; by people who often integrate their own biased assumptions and observations into observable scientific facts that often contaminate the very facts that they are trying to establish.

However, Bible, the Word of God, is different. It gives us the correct, most reliable answers for all our questions regarding our existence and purpose.

You might wonder: Why its answers are accurate and authoritative? Because, they are given by the One who created everything, the one and only true God who moulded everything into being.

The Bible says:

7Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2, 7)

Man became a living being when God Almighty breathed the breath of life into his nostrils. So basically, the life we have in this world is the life that came from God. It is not some physical element of this universe that keep us animated, but the eternal breath of life that came from an Eternal God.

So, the fact of the matter is; we are not just physical beings with flesh and blood but spiritual beings created by an Eternal God to experience a physical life on earth for a certain period of time.

We came into this world with a plan and purpose which is: to live in eternal fellowship with the Almighty God. But we lost that ability when Adam and Eve, our First Parents sinned in the garden of Eden.

As you know well the story: God created man in HIS own image and likeness and put him in the garden of Eden to take care of it. Man was in perfect fellowship with the God Almighty until the day of his disobedience. The moment he disobeyed; he lost his fellowship with God and was separated from HIM.

Sin stripped man of his holiness and righteousness and he could not fellowship with his creator anymore. Sin created a spiritual wall of separation between man and God. But God was not willing to leave man where he fell. Instead of abandoning him to perish eternally, God Almighty prepares a plan of eternal salvation through His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ.

God Almighty sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross as an atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole humanity.  Jesus Christ died on the cross in man’s place and brought reconciliation between man and God. Look at the verses below.

1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. (1John, 2, 1-2)

So, the death of Jesus Christ on the cross brought salvation to mankind; the ones, because of their sinful nature, destined to die eternally were made alive eternally through the blood of Christ.

Now, man is free to receive this salvation through faith in the Son of God-Jesus Christ.

See, the following verses describe very well, the plan of salvation offered by God to Mankind.

16For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3, 16-17)

So, the conclusion of the matter is:

We are Human Beings with a precious, immortal soul in us that is destined to live an eternal life.  And this eternal life is offered to anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and willing to repent of their sins. The following verses makes it crystal clear.

9If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.(Romans 10, 9-10

19Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord, (Acts 3, 19)

Remember: We are not just physical beings having a physical experience on earth; but spiritual beings having a physical experience on earth.

Stay Blessed
