There is no one in the world who do not worry about their lives, we all worry and keep worrying all the time. Nowadays, I think, believers worry more than the unbelievers.
If we make a list of the things that we worry about; it would be clear that most of them are about our material needs; they are not about eternal or spiritual matters.
If I ask you frankly; how many of you worry about the soul of an unsaved family member or neighbor? None. In fact, most of you do not worry so much about their salvation but you do worry about their material needs.
24 hours a day we are concerned more about our job, house, car, dress, food etc; and these concerns often become a hindrance to our spiritual growth.
However, LORD Jesus always commanded us not to worry about our lives on this small planet earth. Also, HE used very good examples to show us how futile it is to worry about daily lives. Let us look at the verses below.
Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. ( Matt 6, 25-34)
LORD Jesus knows us very well, in fact he knows us more than we know ourselves, His knowledge about us is complete. He knows that our eyes and hearts are always fixed on material things.
We put all our effort on seeking first our own little kingdoms than seeking His Kingdom and His righteousness. So, we get into a habit of perpetual worrying. That is why in the above verses the LORD is very clearly saying “Do not worry” and he does not stop there, He uses very good, live examples to illustrate that; there is no need to worry about our lives.
Let us look at these verses:
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?”
the above verse is really true, right? The birds, though they are very simple and unimportant among the whole of GOD’s creation, He cares for them in every aspect, He sustains them without any failure. If the LORD gives so much attention for these simple ones how much more he would love to care for us – the ones HE created in HIS own image and likeness, the ones for whom He sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross.
Let us look at another example that the LORD used:
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Here, He uses the lilies of the field as an example to show how much GOD cares for his creation. Lilies indeed are very simple in the eyes of man but for the LORD they are very important and he designed them in such a marvelous way that even the great king Solomon in all his splendor could not come closer to the beauty and elegance of these little lilies.
Though these lilies have a very short life-span of a day or two they are not unimportant in LORD’s eyes. So how much more importance do we, the ones made in His own image and likeness, have in His eyes. How much attention He might be giving us each and every moment!
Saints, just like a flight is always on the radar of an ATC, we, the children of God, are always on the heavenly radar, we never disappear from it, even for a moment. He loves us and care for us, so, His eyes are always on us.
He knows about our needs more than we know about them. We don’t need to worry and run around looking for ways and means to meet these needs. He will provide what you need at the right time, if you trust and wait up on Him. If your trust is in him, not on the flesh, you will never be disappointed.
But nowadays, we don’t see many believers experiencing this kind of heavenly provision, instead, we see so much desperation and anxiety among them. This points towards the lack of genuine dependence on the LORD. We often underestimate the power and love of God Almighty.
We often forget the fact that, we are the children of an Almighty God who is the creator and sustainer of everything seen and unseen, whose hands sustain not just the lilies of the field but also the galaxies.
We are here, on earth, with a divine plan and purpose and not by accident. We need to think and act like His children- not like orphans
Please note: there is a key point in Matt 6, 25-34, it is given below:
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
The above key point talks about an important condition, that should be met for the miraculous, heavenly provision to begin and that is “we need to seek His kingdom and His righteousness first”.
When GOD comes in to the center of your life, all other things will follow you and there won’t be any need for you to go in search of them. When His kingdom is the first priority in your life, you will become His first priority and would lack nothing materially or spiritually.
If we don’t have God in the center of our lives we will run around like pagans searching for ways and means to sustain ourselves. In my life too, there were times when, I was running around like pagans looking desperate and struggling hard to sustain myself.
I worked harder than all of my friends but earned less than any of them. Those days, though I was a believer, LORD was not the first priority in my life, all my trust was on the power of the flesh rather than on the power of the LORD. But as I started trusting the LORD and obeying Him more, changes began to appear in my life both materially and spiritually.
Dear saints, when it comes to relationship with the LORD- the key factor is obedience, obeying him is more important than anything else. See, the the first sin was disobedience. So obedience is the bridge that connects you with the LORD. The following verses will confirm this truth.
But Samuel replied: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams. ( 1 Samuel 15, 22)
“If you love me, you will obey what I command. (John 14, 15)
Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him (John 14, 21)
From the above verses it is clear that, obedience to LORD’s commandments should be the most important priority for a Christian. Your obedience proves that, you love Him. So, the love relationship begins with obedience. Your obedience will prove that, the LORD is in the center of your life, It means, you are seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness.
By reading the verses in Matthew 6, 25-34 we could easily understand that, the LORD is trying to teach us some important lessons about life. Though these words seem very simple, they have a very profound meaning and purpose; if we apply them in our daily life; they would not only change the way we look at life but also the way we live.
In those verses the LORD is commanding us “not to worry about our life” and He commands because, he is the creator, sustainer and provider of everything in this universe. He has the power and ability to meet all our needs, and solve all our problems. So, if you trust and obey him, you will indeed see changes in all areas of your life.
