Can You See with Your Spiritual Eyes?

This article “can you see with your Spiritual Eyes?” is based on the following verses:

39Jesus said, a “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.” 40Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?” 41Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.(John 9, 39-41)

In the above verses, we see, Jesus having an argument with some of the pharisees over a miracle that He performed on a blind person.

The Blind person testified that Jesus healed him, but the pharisees were not willing to accept his claim.

Instead of believing, those pharisees started an argument with Jesus and immediately He tells them that:

“They are guilty of sin, because, they have the ability to see but do not see or believe”

Here the issue is: not that they cannot see, but they do not believe what they have seen with their own eyes. That is why Jesus tells them that:

“they are guilty”

When we examine the scriptures, we could find that the Pharisees, during the time of Jesus, always claimed that they knew everything about the scriptures and the God about whom those scriptures testify.

However, in reality, they did not live according to the truth that they received from the word of God.  Though they knew the truth they did not walk according to that truth, the proof of which was always visible in their lives. That is why Jesus tells them:

“If you were blind, you would not be guilty, but, since you claim that you can see, your guilt remains”.

In other words: they would not be guilty, if they were living in rebellion because of their ignorance or blindness.

The above verses also reveal another truth i.e.

God Almighty is willing to forgive unconditionally those sins that we commit in ignorance, the sins we commit because of our blindness.

However, we will be held fully accountable for the sins that we commit while claiming to be walking in “the Truth.”

See what Apostle Paul says in Hebrews:

26If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,

27but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

29How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

30For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” d and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” e 31It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.(Hebrews 10, 26-31)

Unfortunately, there are many among Contemporary Bible believing Christians, just like the pharisees in John 9, who claim to know the Truth but do not believe or live according to the Truth.

Though, they claim to have surrendered everything to Christ, in, reality, they haven’t given up anything. They see the truth; they know the truth but they don’t live according to the truth.

The people on the streets are blind, they don’t know “the truth” so they live according to the desires of the flesh and they are guilty of it. But, God Almighty is ready to forgive them, if they are willing to repent of their sins.

But when the people who claim to be the children of God live in willful sin, there is no more room for God to be lenient towards them, because they are not blind or ignorant about the truth; but they are living in sin despite knowing the truth fully well.

Saints, if you claim to be a born-again believer who has been saved by the Precious blood of Christ, there is no way, you can live in sin, or engage in activities that amount to sin according to the Word of God.

Some sins you might find to be socially acceptable but remember: they are sins in the eyes of the LORD Almighty; so, you, definitely need to stay away from them.

Let us take for example: A Christian Girlfriend and Boyfriend living together before marriage. This is common in Western Societies and also socially acceptable. However, it is not acceptable in the eyes of God Almighty.

Pastors, Preachers and Believers please listen: You do not have the right to approve these types of behaviors and let them continue to be part of your fellowship.

If you are a responsible Shepherd, you should correct them and help them to walk righteously before the God Almighty. Otherwise, you too will be held responsible for their sin.

The above issue I just used as an example and still there are many other similar types of sins that are socially acceptable but not right in the eyes of The LORD. We, as believers, should not be ignorant about them.

Saints, remember, there is no sacrifice left, if, we continue to live in sin willfully after coming under the umbrella of the Grace of Christ.

(Hebrews 10, 26-28)

If we claim to have Sight and Light of Christ in our lives, then, we should be walking by that Sight and Light. There is no excuse whatsoever for living in darkness again. Amen
